My turtle is about 2 years old. He/she is a River Cooter and i got him/her from a pet shop. Seaweed (his or her's name) has settled in, eats a lot, and so far is healty. We put seaweed in a kiddy pool in the middle of the day. But, when we found a new turtle bigger then him, although not much. He has been eating more, and snapping at the other turtle. Help.

  1. He might feel uncomfortable with the other turtle. It is not good to introduce a new turtle like that. They could get in a fight and either turtle could die.

  2. Turtles are not social animals, the one you've had is seeing the new one as a territorial threat and a potential eater of all it's food. Over time it may become used to having the other one around, but probably not before a lot more fighting. Also keep in mind that wild turtle can carry diseases and parasites that your turtle has no defense from.  Best bet would be to keep both of them in separate tanks.

  3. put them in different containers, I think. Just for a little while. Put the containers right next to each other so the turtles can still see each other,  but cant touch each other. Put them together for about 5-10 minutes a day, to get use to each other even more. but make sure someone is watching them at all times. If it starts to get ugly, seperate them fast. Don this for about a months, a few weeks msybe. It might help their relationship with each other. Hope that helps, bye!!!!
