  1. You have to double check to see if you have stereo connections.  The Red, Yellow and White jacks on the back of your TV.  If you don't, then you're pretty much screwed.  If you do, it should be in the audio settings on your TV.

  2. Most TV's made recently either offer true stereo sound (Left and right channels) or simulated stereo sound, where software in the TV virtually separates the sound to provide a simulated stereo effect.  If you are connecting from a DVD/VCR player, and you used RCA jacks (yellow for video, white for left channel, red for right channel) and you are still experiencing mono sound, then you should dive into the menu system of your television.  Most TV's with on-screen settings will have a section for Audio, where you can define the various treble, bass settings as well as stereo or even simulated surround sound.  Since you didn't tell us what type of TV you have or what type of device you are connecting to your TV, it's pretty hard to help you.  If we have more info, we can probably provide more help.

Also keep in mind that not ALL programs broadcast in stereo, most of the major networks are broadcasting in surround sound, specifically if they are broadcasting high-def.

Hope the info I did provide helps.

    Robert

  3. Since it's happening on its own, I suspect it goes to mono because it's not getting a stereo signal. The signal comes from the original source (the tv station) and if that's mono, then you get mono.
