Question:

My Uncles in the Hospital

I was adopted by my uncle who is now in the hospital because of a heart attack. Now I'm staying with one of his friends until he is well enough to get out. His friends house is kind of messy, especially the kitchen. I was told I am going to be staying with him for a while, would it be rude if I clean up some areas. He’s single and he spend loads of time in his room working, I think he’s just to busy to keep up the house work.

  1. I think it wouldn't be rude at all, but you just need to go about it in the right way.

Perhaps offer to make dinner (clean what is necessary to do that) and then afterwards you'll be able to clean properly in the guise of tidying up after yourseld.

As for general mess elsewhere... always ask before moving anything important. And I would stick to areas in which you spend a lot of time - so the room you sleep in, and the lounge area other than the kitchen.

Other than that I'm so sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope he recovers well.

  2. He'd probably be grateful to have a house guest who thinks about this.

I would say "Go for it!"

  3. Not at all. Make sure that you do not throw any of his things out that would be rude.

I wish you the best of luck with your uncle.
