I have an older analog TV and a Sanyo VCR with no S-Video output. I have connected the cable from my Dish to my VCR, then my VCR to my TV. I also have the red white and yellow cables connected. When I push TV/Video the TV goes a little fuzzy but will not play or record from the TV. I also tried Video1, Video2, and the component channels but none work. The screen is just black when I try them. I really need to know how to record from my satellite and play videos. Please help.

  1. Hi!  It's process of elimination time.  First off, some of the components are of older technology, so first ensure that the TV and the VCR actually work.  That is, make sure the TV works (sound & picture) without plugging in the VCR or Dish.  Next, try attaching the Dish receiver to the TV and see if you still get sound and picture.  If that works, then add the VCR to the mix.  Please note that it's usually the VCR that causes havoc when people try to wire things up, so you'll be in good company if this is the case.  Just make sure the VCR is set to accept input from the Red/White/Yellow cables of the Dish receiver.  It's probably set to receive input from other connectors by default.  Please let me know if this helps.  Good Luck!

  2. If you connected the cable from the wall to the dish reciever, then to the in on the vcr, then from the out to the in on the tv. You should be able to watch the VCR on channel 3 or 4. Now if you are trying to record that way, you are only going to be able to record what you are watching currently.
