Ok. I got a video camera for christmas...

It didn't come with any download cables, so I went out and brought them... A few expensive days later...

I plug it into my computer blah blah blah.. And I open up something like "Windows Movie Maker"

Click the get file from video device and A note comes up saying it doesn't reconise the device, or something like that...

Does anyone know where I can download a program for it to work? Or if I will ever gvet it to work?

  1. - do you have the camera turned on?

    - have you read the instructions?

    - go to the maker's website and download the drivers

    - after all that try virtualdub (www.virtualdub.org)

  2. You should have some instalation CDs that go together with a camcorder. Install the software on your computer and then connect you cam using cables. if it doesn't work, change those cables. if it doesn't work either, contact the company selling the same camcorders and ask them.

  3. So what kind of cables did you buy?

    If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

    Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.

    If you have a mini dvd camcorder….

    You will have to finalize your dvd in the camera and then put the dvd in your computer 's DVD burner (top loading only) and then you will have to convert the files (i downloaded handbrake file converter free) and import them into your editing program. Use the HELP feature in your editing program to learn about editing. Once you are ready to burn, your project will be burned to a different DVD and you can file the original away.

  4. Unfortunately "blah blah blah" is the bit that matters!  We also need to know what sort of camcorder it is (make and model number).  You may well have all the software you need already, but without that information....

  5. Did it come with any installation CDs?

    If the cables continue to not work maybe you should take them back to the store ><

  6. ... a wild guess, u have a miniDV camcorder?

    a miniDV vcam must be FIREWIRE400**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* software while vcam is ON PLAYBACK.  Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase** (Vcam/4pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC (4/ 6pin?), check pc for DV or firewire port, whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, install firewire card: pci for pc or pcmcia for laptop.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firewire

    for starters, free Windows Movie Maker* (XP-wmm2 & Vista-wmm6) provides simple & easy way to learn the ropes < click help for details>. Upgrade to intermediate video editing applications accdg. to need & skill level

    http://video-editing-software-review.top...

          video editing process- XP/wmm2

          >>> open wmm- start/all programs/wmm->TASK pane

    1. Capture video stream** - editing software remotely controls vcam operations

    2. Edit- drag/drop video files->timeline & enhance w/effects, transition, music & titles

    3. Finish (render)- save Movie –OK for youTube, also save Project.msmmw file

    4. Share-burn to CD (if DvD, use DvD authoring app, e.g.,DvD Flick, Nero, etc.)

    For Vista/wmm6, t’is similar: Import/ Edit/ Publish/ WindowsDVD or Nero for authoring

    ...just in case, it's not a miniDV..

    Other options to upload vcam files via file mgmt- windows explorer-> Hdd (Usb-connect vcam to pc); DvD (insert to pc drive); Flash Memory (card reader)

    Most likely, the mpeg2 files aren't supported by wmmaker..

    =>If format not supported, convert video files to avi or wmv (Google & download video converter- Prism or Super, Kate’s, etc.)... Open app, Add files, Convert, Save.
