My Xbox 360 Keeps Turning Itself On?

Question

I have a xbox 360 that currently keeps turning itself on. The only way I can stop it is to switch off the plug but that is annoying as i have to get behind my T.V. Is there any way of stopping this?

Xbox turns itself on? Won't turn off? You have corrosion issues at the front of your motherboard.

(1) The X-Box fails to power down using the power on/off button on the front panel. The power cord has to be pulled out to shut it down.
(2) As soon as the power cord is plugged in, the X-Box powers up without pressing either the on/off or eject buttons.
(3) While the X-Box is on for a certain amount of time, it shuts down by itself for no reason. The time factor before shut down can vary wildly.

Some X-Box motherboards have a corrosion problem on some traces.
This corrosion is due to some sort of contamination from the factory.
Corrosion on traces will cause less current flow due to part of the copper in a trace being eaten away and the copper itself changing its chemical composition, almost turning it into a resistor.
Just cleaning the trace from this contamination will not fix the problem. You may be lucky enough that it will work, but it will more than likely fail once again at a later stage.

To fix this problem you would need to bypass the traces with fine wire.

To do this fix you'd need to be really good with a soldering iron.

I'm not gonna go into how to open the xbox there are plenty of how to's online for that. Start by following each trace from the PSU (Power supply unit) with a magnifying glass it should look like a tiny black spot on the trace, clean them using rubbing alcohol do not use nail varnish for it could cause more corrosion.
When you find the damaged trace scrape off a bit of the mask form before and after the corrosion, solder a wire corresponding with the pcb track width list above to the parts of the trace where you scraped of the mask to bypass the damaged part.
Do the same with any trace that looks like it has corrosion.
