Question:

My Yahoo group is being flooded with spammers?

The e-mail addresses are all different Yahoo addresses, but the user comments are identical:

"Comment from user:

Hi evrybody, ilike to join this group besacue i have to share my ideas"

Is there anything I can do to prevent my group being bombarded by these spammers?

Here are some of the spammers ID's:

  1. Hi, as a group owner I have to ask do you own the group. If you do then you can take and ban them from the group. this will effectively stop all the spam. If you don't then try contacting the owner and see if he would be willing to make you a moderator for the group. One ot the groups I own i became the co owner by contacting the orginal creator of the group. Feel free to contact me and maybe I can help you in some way.

  2. restirct membership to require approval- set new members to moderation- solves the whole problem

management- under group settings click membership- then Membership Type and Welcome Message (Edit) <-- click the edit- check Restricted (you approve all requests for membership) click save changes

management- under group settings click messages- Posting and Archives (Edit) <- click the edit- 3rd column Moderation - ckech new members- click save changes

go to members list and ban the ones currently who are members that are spammers

  3. block it, make them fill out a form before they are aloud in.

  4. set the group as moderated so you can approve anyone who may join and you can also moderate the messages before posting as well

  5. report them. also get pissed off with peopel wasting my points by sending really stupid answers when I have a genuine problem. I can take a joke, but I thought Answers was supposed to be a way of finding out things you don't know or need help with. Life can be tough can't it :(

  6. lucky you

  7. It sounds like your group has been targeted by a group of spammers who constantly change from one email address to another. All you can do is reject their membership requests. You could put them in your Ban list but it would really be a waste of time because they just change to other email addresses and spam you some more. Just keep rejecting them and they will finally give up and find other groups to spam.

  8. just put a block on people you dont know.

  9. You can ban them. Or make your group private and screen everyone who wishes to become a member. The moment one of those spam messages comes up, ban the person and make note of their IP address. That way, they can't sneak in under a new ID.

Another trick I use for my groups is to ask each person for an alternate email address. Then I send an email to verify it is real. Amazing how that cuts down on the spammers.

  10. no idk
