Question:

My Yahoo! not updating?

OK, now I'm wondering if our good friends at Yahoo! have stopped updating the MyYahoo! pages just to get people to go to the new one. I know that we'll all be forced onto that new, crappy software before long, but now I think they may be botching things up to get people to "voluntarily" switch over.

How do the folks at Yahoo! manage to create WORSE software every time they change it? The last big change they made to IM was enough to make me uninstall it and switch to Trillian, and all the changes for their new "beta" versions may be enough to force me away from Yahoo! forever after having it as my home page for many, many years.

  1. I completely agree..  I tried to figure out how to move the annoying advertisement to the top or bottom, but no luck.  Also, I want message center not the assistant..  I still pay for the Yahoo premium so I don't understand why I see ads anyway!

  2. I had been having this problem on my home computer for more than a week, but the my yahoo page had been working normally on my work computer.  Today it stopped updating at work as well...  I've tried all of the "fixes" (F5 hard refresh, clearing cache, deleting temp files/cookies) and none of it does anything to solve the problem.

I've done a little research, and found that it seems like everyone who has not switched to the new beta version is having the same problem.  The one thing that confuses me though is that it was fine till today on my work computer.  My home computer hasn't updated in over a week.  Could it be the different ISP or something?

Regardless...  I'm going to give them another week or so, and if it's not resolved, I'm switching to iGoogle.  I'm not crazy about iGoogle either, but I WILL NOT let yahoo, passive aggressively, force me to make a change I don't want to make.  I've been loyal to Yahoo in having them as my start page for over 8 years now -- and this is how I'm being treated?  If anyone @ yahoo is listening (I doubt it!)  Once I switch -- I'M NOT COMING BACK!  Not for searches... not for email... not for anything!

  3. I wonder if anyone at Yahoo is reading this correspondance. Or is it that they just dont care!

  4. And here I thought it was just me.  I hate the new Yahoo! page and have kept the old one but now it won't update.  Nice to know I'm not alone.

I agree that every time they change their software, it gets worse.  Maybe it's all the layoffs they're projecting but it does surprise me that an Internet company has such terrible software versions.

And their "help" section is worthless.  The last time I tried to contact someone in their "help" area I just got fed the same story over and over even though I had said repeatedly that I had already tried their "fix" and it hadn't worked.  Sadly, I too may be leaving Yahoo! after many years.

  5. If this is a matter of it not automatically refreshing with new email, here's how to auto-update any web page.

Step 1. Install the Firefox browser if you haven't already.

Step 2: Install the "TabsMixPlus" extension.

Now you can update any page every few seconds (your choices).

It's also extremely handy for sports score and auctions site to keep up to date and get in that last minute bid.

I'd have to re-read the documentation, but there's even a hot-key to start the current tab (or page) refreshing every X seconds.

    Trillian! That's it!

I was looking for something else that would Ii hope run on this old windows 98 machine in a particular room. Yahoo messenger takes 50% of the CPU time when no one's connected or anything! (Pentium III at 450Mhz)

  6. Mine also hasn't updated in 2 days, and it's very frustrating. I also don't like the look of the new page and don't want to switch. I have my page set up perfectly for my taste. Argh!

  7. l do know that Yahoo is going into transition to update a new social network and other of their services. This is causing some major bugs.

But when this is over with, we should have less problems.

So ,l would say the transition is cauing the bugs right now. And hopefully they will have everything running better soon.
