I started penning my yorkie recently so that he could sleep alone. I put the bed in my room and he will sleep there if I am in my bed alone. When my boyfriend is around, he barks like crazy & it has become a huge problem. My boyfriend had to leave last night to go to his place to get some sleep as the dog wouldn't stop the barking. Once my boyfriend left, the dog quieted right down. I need to do something as this dog is running my life. He is 3.5 years old. Also, I made the mistake of letting him sleep with me & know that is the problem, however, any advice to retrain him would be GREATLY appreciated! Thank you!

  1. I had a similar sort of experience. My maltx (Tinkerbell) , iv had her since she was a puppy and she always slept in my bed. Everytime my bf come round she wanted nothing to do with me or him. If he stayed the night she would sleep on the couch. But if he didn't stay all she wanted was attention and she would sleep back in the bed with me. Eventually we end up getting a house togeather and Tinkerbell moved with us. After a while she got used to the fact that she had to share me with someone else and now she sleeps  in the bed with us.

Maybe your dog gets jelous when your bf is around. Hopefully he will get used to your bf been around and just stop it. Or you could try putting him in a different with his bed.

    Good luck.

  2. Buy your Yorkie his own bed.  Keep it downstairs and make sure he knows he's not allowed upstairs.  Dogs are intelligent and like children will push the boundaries.

  3. 1]go to your bf's place

    2]make it sleep somewhere else

    3]sell it

    4]change your bf

  4. u can always go to ur boyfriend's place....

  5. shut him in a different room

  6. Well you can search for a girl friend for your Yorkie. Believe he will quit then.

    Good luck!

  7. Has your boyfriend made an attempt to get to know your dog? Does he pet him, or does the dog have a distrust for him?  I'm by far an expert, but it seems your dog is jealous of the attention you give your boyfriend, which is normal. I think your boyfriend needs to make an attempt to "bond" with your dog and let the dog get to know him.  I had a chihuahua/terrier mix (I just recently lost her-she was hit by a car). She would bark like crazy at people, until they played with her or picked her up and let her know they were ok. Your dog may also sense something about your boyfriend he just doesn't like, I don't know. Like I said, I'm no expert. I do not agree, however with "locking him in a cage or in another room"....that will only make the problem worse!

Perhaps instead of leaving last night, your boyfriend should have tried to make friends with your dog? Just a thought.

Good luck with this, I hope it all works out for you. Dogs (and cat's) are great companions to have.
