I set my thermostat at 75 and the coldest it will get in the house is 82. Already tried to reset circuit breakers. I got a new air filter and removed it. There is a shrub is slightly blocking one side of unit. I have a honeywell thermostat and an amana 13 seer heat pump. Do I need a new thermostat or to fix the a/c unit?

  1. it could be that your unit needs to be cleaned. even with filters on them the coils eventully get dirty.

  2. looks like you need some freeon put in it. thats not something you or i could get either. you have to be licensed. so call a heating and air cond. company in your area and they can come out and charge it back up.

  3. Its  not freon it is actually called refrigerant, freon is a name brand like dupont just some FIY for those who dont know. To tell you ther truth you should call an AC guy out to inspect the unit. There are a number of things I could tell you that is wronge. You could be over charged, under charged, leak in the line, coils not cleaned, another FIY you should clean at least the outside coils twice a year. Your coil contactor could be bad there are a number of things I wish I could help you more.

  4. I can help you with this one.  You need to turn your power off to the a/c unit. I need you to open the panel from where the a/c unit's blower is located. I need you to locate the side of the coil where the filter is protecting. I'll explain why. The filter is used to protect the coil as well, throughout the time the dirt goes through the filter and dirt buildup gets on the coil causing a restriction on the airflow. This restriction will also cause your supply temperature to be hot instead of cooler. Visually inspect your coil, and look for dirt build up. If you do see dirt build up, then you need to clean it with either a wet/dry vacuum and suck all that dirt out of the coil. Then clean it with water. Then, after is clean with no restriction. close the cover, put the power back on. Turn the ac on for 30 minutes and check to see if your ac is providing cold air now. Do this then give me report to follow up.

Answer this questions for me. Does your ac freezes? If you put your hand on the ac register do you feel air coming out no matter if is cold or hot as long as you have air flow can you feel the air?
