My account got overdrawn...

Question

Overdrawn on my debit. I have an account with Wamu, and I forgot to put money in my account, so it was too late (BTW I have the money.)

I couldn't get a hold of any of the Wamu people, and I am pretty new to this so can someone tell me what is going to happen now? Do I have to pay some kind of penalty fee, like double? Wamu didn't state this, so if anyone of you guys have a WAMU account, I'd really appreciate it if you gave me the heads up.

Since you spent money you did not have, you actually took a loan from the bank and will be charged a penalty and interest.  Carelessness is no excuse.  You are living beyond your means if your checking account is that close to zero.

ok, these are the facts, most banks charge a fee for no money in bank. if you did get ahold of someone it was to late the money went thru and if you added money, possible that money would hit your account after u went over drawn. on the issue no one told you, it's your responsibility to read your banking info when account is set up.  ignorance of bank rules is not a defense, u were notified, just not the way you wanted. now you know, what r u going 2 do n da future.

Yes, there will be a penalty.  But, if this is the first time you have overdrawn your account, it is possible that they will waive the fee.  Call the bank and explain the situation.  It can't hurt to try.

Yes, there will be a fee.  Have you tried calling their 800 number?  I can't believe there's no one there to assist you now.  They are the best ones to talk to.  When you talk to them, ask them about how to avoid this problem in the future - they will have different options available to avoid overdrafts.  Also, if you never did it before, they may offer you a refund of the fee.  Definitely call them ASAP and get the deposit made.
