Hi,

I need some help and I don't know who to ask or where to post.a week ago my computer did a windows update. After it restart I tried to log on to my name. When I got on all of my settings were gone, all of my pictures and documents, music in my iTunes, even the back ground was different..The songs are important to me. Do you know how I can log on correctly. It's as though I have set up a new account. I am positive I did not delete anything. How can i get my stuff back!?

thanks for you time, I would appreciate any suggestions,

Victoria

  1. Check the following directory on your computer. Open My Computer, click on the C drive, find the directory labeled Documents and Settings.

When you open that directory you should see accounts for ALL of the users setup on your machine. That will include one called Administrator, one for your sign-on name and any other authorized users. Look through those users to see if your old information is under one of them.

The user manager on XP is a little flaky at times, It shifted mine and created a new "Owner" account which had all my old items in it.

Vista shouldn't be that way but I suspect even Vista could do that to you as well. Check the Documents and Settings - look through them for your missing Information. You can either copy it over to your name, or log-in under the name it shows your information under. (All this assumes you are an administrative account on your machine.) If not log-in AS the Administrator and check that folder!)

This is just a best guess but let us know?
