Question:

My achilles is killing me!?

I hurt it a few weeks ago doing triple jump, it was fine within two days though and I felt no pain what so ever. However, on Saturday night I wore stilettos to a party and I danced in them. The next day my achilles was again extremely painful and it still is today. On Monday night I had cheerleading practice and did alot of tumbling. It didn't hurt too much, but now I can hardly walk.

I would give it a rest, but I have state cheerleading on the weekend so that isn't an option.

Does anyone know what might be wrong with it.

  1. You should be really carefulwith that and get it checked

Achilles injuries are real bad and very painful

Ice always helps ease the pain, its kind of your best friend when you get injured!

    Hope you get better

  2. Stay out of stilettos! High heeled shoes cause your Achilles Tendon to be contracted. If you dance around like this all night, imagine the next day when you first step out of bed, it is really going to hurt!! The Achilles Tendon needs to remain in a more stretched position with constant icing to reduce the inflammation.

Unfortunately the Achilles Tendon has a poor blood supply and can be the reason for it to take longer to heal then other muscle tendons.

I would stay out of heels for the mean time and wear good supportive joggers. Get your podiatrist or physiotherapist to show you a strapping to take the tension of the Achilles Tendon during your cheerleading on the weekend.

Long term you may need to have your feet and legs checked for any biomechanical deficiencies causing extra strain on your Achilles Tendon.

  3. you keep injuring it. make sure you do stretches concentrating on that area. Also massage the area before and after activity. Try to ice it after activity as well as this will decrease any swelling to the area.
