Is this a virus? I've run three different scans, but it doesn't get fixed.

  1. Sometimes this happens if the program is needed for another to operate. If you do not see it on the add/remove menu check under the program through the start menu. Some have the option of uninstalling right there. Other than you may need to acquire an uninstaller.

Somethings that show as a program that do not show up at all under the add/remove  quite possibly could be a virus. I've had a virus on my computer that posed as an antivirus program. I found it fishy that I couldn't find a way to uninstall it. If you are afraid that it is a virus do a search on the internet. chances are, if it is a virus, someone else had it and posted something about it.

  2. No, it can sometimes happen when the installation fiels for the program have been corrupted or deleted. To get rid of these programs you need a powerful uninstaller. Fortunately, there is an excellent free one available called Revo Uninstaller:

    Give that a try.

  3. Which programs in particular?  What you can do in there depends on the programs, and what their installation programs are set up to do, not on Windows itself.  Maybe a lot of the programs you've installed have no uninstall option.
