My american bulldog is having issues...?

Question

well we took her to the vet about5 months ago, she had eaten some safety pins that were on a blanket. well to make a long story short she had to have surgery on her stomach, that was the first time she had eaten anything other than food. but since then she has chewed a whole in the wall, tore up the carpet and eats everything that lays around. i love her but i can't stand this behavior. what can i do to help her relax and stop chewing on everything?

I think that the real trick is to get your dog interested in one or two dog chew toys, and let them know that these are OK but any thing else is off limits.

  Try using kong toys and fill them with peanut butter no dog can turn it down, plus they will have to work at it to get the reward. This means they will be occupied for some time with the same chew toy, also try some hollow bones and stuff them with peanut butter and then freeze them, this will make your dog work harder and he will also learn that this is what he can have. You can exercises her, let her burn off some of that energy. That usually helps calm a dog down. Buy her some chew toys, something she won't eat up in a day, Try to direct that negative behavior into positive behavior.

She is either bored or not getting enough of what she needs in her diet.

I`m betting this behavior happens when she is left alone seeing how your not capable of catching her in the act.

As one of the previous answers either kennel her or crate her when she is left alone.

I would keep her in a Kennel when you are not at home.  Second, they make a spray called Bitter Apple Spray,  that you can use that makes everything you do not want her to chew on taste bad to her.  Third, buy some treats and see which one she likes best and then keep a constant supply in the house.  I would buy a treat that takes a while to chew so it keeps her entertained.  I like GoofBalls made by Dingo.  They are made of rawhide and chicken with a treat in the middle of the ball(which gives them a reason to keep chewing to the middle!) Dingo has a nice selection of chews to choose from, so I would check there.
