My amp is HOT!?

I got an alpine mrp-m1000 hooked up to a pioneer premier sub 1000 rms...it's all hooked up in a 2 ohm load. I got a 1 farad stinger cap hooked up to the amp. Everythings tuned to profection, the amp has lots of space for air so don't tell me thats the problem but still the amp gets really hot even when i am running the sub extremely low. This is the perfect match for this sub so dont tell me to get a different amp or anything. I just want someones professional opinion on why the amp can still be getting so hot when it's hooked up properly? Any suggestions please?

  1. So don't tell me...So don't tell me...So don't tell me...O.K. you figure it out then!!!

  2. It will get unbelievably hot- especially with a 2 ohm load- that is why it is designed with cooling fins for heat displacement. As long as it is not blowing the breaker, it is operating within the parameters that it was designed for but it does take alot of abuse.  The only drawback is that the amp will not be as clean when warm as you THD will increase as resistance builds.  A solution would be to mount a cooling fan to dissiate the heat faster, but you might have to isolate it the prevent any white noises.

  3. lets get the basics down:

Your amp is rated 1000 @ 2 ohm

You have Duel 4 ohm Subs, wired in Parallel, So you ended up at 2 ohm total

(duel 2 would get you to 1 ohm and cause a hot amp)

The first thing to check is the wire, 4 Guage wire minimum? (need enough current flow to the amp)

Battery terminals Loose? (is the #1 cause of hot amps wired correctly)

Condition of the battery? (old and tired or New and holding good charge)

    Connection of Fuse Holder Loose?

Is the Amp and the Cap, Both on a rock solid Ground?

(also try removing the cap, seriously, most installers will not sell you a cap for a 1000 rms job.  Those things do Nothing to help your sounds, amp, subs.  they are sold to bump up the price on the sale.

Did you scrape the paint off the spot where the ground wire is attached using 2-3 screws to keep the ground from moving around?

After you checked all that, go to a shop if still a problem for free diagnostic or simple labor $20 job.

  4. well it is summer time and depending on where you live it might be getting hot that way i live in texas and just the amp being in my car not doing anything the heatsink on it gets so hot it will burn you but it never shuts down my hifonics peace of **** did all the d**n time but you have an alpine should be a good amp id say to just try a cooling fan does it take a while to get hot if it takes a long time to get hot then it just needs a fan if it gets hot for only a few mins then there might be something wrong with the amp
