My dog likes to bark A LOT!! He is quiet most of the time until he sees people or another dog. He is a Pomeranian so he has barking in his blood but I think its a little more than that. I tried to tire him out so he can meet another dog but my dog tried to kill the other dog. I want to send him to obedience but my parents refuse to pay. So im out of options. What do I do? By the way I don't know much about his past.

  1. My dog does the same thing but she just wants to play with everyone so she barks at them I just tell her to go lay down or to be quiet and she listens so sorry I don't think I am much help.

  2. First step, you will need to determine the reason that made your dog barking. There are so many reasons that contribute to dogs barking. Example, dog will bark when it feel nervous, worry or scare. Some dogs might be barking because they feel not comfortable. Determine the cause of your dog barking will help to increase the possibility of dog bark’s eliminating success.

I share 8 steps to stop dog barking at the source link below which is too long to be post here.

  3. Take the dog for walks, lots of them.. Make sure there are a lot of people around and other dogs so your dog is comfortable.

Now while walking the dog if you're coming up on someone and your dog goes ballistic, simply turn around and awlk the other way so your dogs attention is diverted. After 5-7 steps, turn back around and try walking toward the on coming person or dog. If the dog goes nuts again, repeat the process. Eventually he'll get the idea that his barking causes a reaction he didn't anticipate.

p.s.  The comment about coins/beans in a can works in the house. A quick shake is enough to get their attention and to get them to stop. If they bark again, give them another loud and annoying shake of the can.

  4. When he starts barking immediately look at him and say: "No!" Eventually he is going to learn that he is not suppose to bark so much. Oh and my dog barks a lot to [he's a Maltese]. Don't worry sooner or later he is going to stop even if you don't do anything. Good luck! =D

  5. We have a chihuahua with the same problem. I read this somewhere, and found that it works pretty well. When he barks, we spray him with a little water, which he HATES. After about 3 times we just have to show him the spray bottle, or any handy thing that looks like the spray bottle, and he immediately stops. I would think a little water gun in your pocket could also work, and that way you could carry it around with you on walks easier. As far as barking in the yard, we found that one light spray from the hose gets his attention, and we just have to hold it up now and he'll be quiet. Of course, we say "be quiet" while doing this, and gradually we are making progress with him responding to just the voice command and not so much the spray bottle.   Also, hopefully your dog is neutered. This helped ours a lot once we got that done. It cost about $200, by the way.

  6. My dogs bark A LOT too.

Someone on this section once suggested putting coins or small pebbles into a can, seal the can,

and when your dog starts barking, issue the command, "no bark", and shake the can at it's ears.

I tried that and it actually does work. so you might want to try it too.

  7. I saw on TV one of those trainers recommended using a can of compressed air and giving a little burt in the dogs direction when it is acting aggressive.

this works well for our 4 chinese cresteds at the front door, when they get barky with guests.
