was the book my antonia a popular book in its time, when published and why or why not??

When Willa Cather's "My Antonia" was published in 1918, it received critical acclaim as the greatest book, yet, written by a woman in America.  It is not, historically, looked on as the best she wrote, but the success of this book helped launch her career.  Are you doing a book report on it? I hope you are reading it. You will see why it was, and still is so appreciated.
