My apartment has hot water running to the toilet. They refuse to fix it. Is that safe or sanitary?

Seriously, it burns. Also, I have a feeling it's a breeding ground for all sorts of nasties if not everything goes down in the flush.

dude i don't know, thats weird, if it is seriously burning, i doubt bacteria will grow there, but it probably smells horrible, get it fixed, even if they won't

I would start to wonder what else is plumbed in incorrectly if I were you, sorry to worry you but this seems like it does not just happen by mistake, I have never heard of it EVER, and I cannot help thinking you should check other things ie water tank, drinking water etc. Good luck, landlord sounds like he should be reported to someone there are laws against this sort of thing as has been pointed out!

the first thing I thought of was the cost of hot water to your toliet.  It is not unsafe.

hot water can make the toilet a breeding ground for bacteria, and its not good for the rubber flapper or the valve which isn't designed for hot water.  the plumber must have been a moron.

What do you mean "it burns"? Does your bum fall into the bowl?

Anyway, doesn't your toilet have one of those cooling tanks in the back?

when the plumber or landlord tapped into the water line he may have tapped in to the hot water line. Follow the water line (shut off beneath the cameoed) and and trace it to its origin. More and likely you will find it attached to the hot water line.

Well 2 things, 1 if you pay for heating your water then that is running up your bill, 2 landlords are responsible for fixing things that are broken, if thus far he has refused to fix it the next step is to put your request in writing (keep a copy for yourself) and send it certified. If he still refuses you can contact your local dept of consumer protection
