they had until the end of the month, but they have taken their clothes and left their furniture. They also hadn't paid the rent for this month. How long do I have to wait until I can get rid of their stuff, and what should I do about the rent money?

  1. Sell the furniture and use it to pay rent.  2 birds with one stone.

  2. well about their stuff call them and tell them your gonna just dump it  if they don't come get it and for rent either try to find roommates fast or if you have a parent friend or relative that can help you out until you get new roommates try that out

  3. Were they on the lease?  If they were, the apartment manager has no right at all to make them move.  Plus they are still responsible for their share of the rent whether they live there or not.

If you were the only person on the lease, then your manager is completely within his rights to kick the other people out - he never agreed to rent the apartment to the other people.  You can get rid of their stuff any time - if they aren't on the lease - but you cannot just sell it or destroy it.  It's still their stuff.  You can put it into storage and sue them for any money you have to pay to store their stuff.  Alternatively, you can give them notice, with plenty of time to make arrangements to move it themselves, and if they don't move it you can get rid of it yourself.

As for the rent, if they were never on the lease then you were always responsible for the whole payment.  Consider yourself lucky you manged to get away with not having to foot the entire bill for as long as you did, but now you are 100% responsible.

  4. Were they on the lease?  If not, then you are completely responsible for the rent! If you can get it from them, then good, but otherwise, it is your responsibility.  Do you have their phone numbers?  If so, then call them and tell them they have 24 hours to get their furniture out!  If they do not come and get it, then it is yours to get rid of, or keep, or sell!  If they are so irresponsible, it is not your fault, and you need to take care of yourself! Maybe you should live alone!

  5. If they are on the lease, then good, get the rent.  It isn't your fault they got kicked out by the sound of it.  Since they left their furniture and have "moved out" just contact them and tell them they have only so long to come get it before you do with it as you please.  If they aren't on the lease, good luck for getting the money!
