the only one with the key is my landlord and there was no forced entry and i thought i had new locks installed when i moved in but now he tells me he took the locks from his other building and switched to save expenses ,well now my 1300 hundred dollar 42 inch hi-def television has been stolen ,how do i know he did not steal it or allow someone else in to steal it and what should i do, he says the law says he has to have a key to the apartment but just because he is a landlord does not mean he is not a theif? i cant prove if he took it or not, but he is only one with a key!

  1. You can press charges against him if you see him with the tv or otherwise prove that he took it. Otherwise, innocent until proven guilty.

  2. You can't and I wouldn't accuse your landlord. You never know - it could have been a maintenance person.

You need renter's insurance. If you didn't have that prior to the theft, there isn't much that can be done. You're out some money, unfortunately. But if you do have renter's you can claim it. But you HAVE to make a police report. At least you will have a number to refer to if you have insurance.

  3. First, you call the law and ask them questions, such as, must a landlord have a key in their possession and what the law is about the landlord entering your private apartment, room, or house while you are gone.  If you report the robbery, the polce should come in and take finger prints.  Finger prints in the case may be your best bet to find out what happened to your television. Whatever you do, do something.  Don't allow someone to get away with violating your world.

  4. if you don't have renters insurance you might not be able to do anything about it. sorry, you should def. look into getting insurance, most companies are only about 100$/year

  5. Unfortunately you live in a big city where the police really don't give a c**p about your TV. Make a police report and buy renters insurance so if it ever happens again you'll be covered!
