My arches hurt?

Question

hi, can anybody advise please, when I run on a treadmill, i get a pain in my arches which starts as a dull ache then becomes really sore. actually had to stop running completely tonight as it hurt so much! whats causing this?

personally I wouldn't use a treadmill to often, it's just not healthy on joints. It also sounds like you should have your arches checked and maybe a new pair of shoes, happy running :)

a) you may have fallen arches - if you stand normally upright, and get someone to look at the arch of the inside of your foot: is there a curve in the arch? If not, you need to go and see a podiatrist and they'll be able to help you. You can get help through your GP.

b) buy running trainers. If you get running trainers they support your arch and stop you getting this pain. They may make your calves ache for a while but you get used to it, and it's great for toning!

c) don't use a treadmill! My podiatrist explained it to me, and basically, its the only machine that PULLS your foot back, so you're not working the best muscles and its nothing like normal running! Using a cross trainer or running on normal ground is muccchhh better :) x

you might want to get checked out for collapsed arches... the same thing happened to me before i went to the doctor. she recommended getting shoe insole inserts and running on the balls of my feet as much as possible. so i would probably go to the doctor first and ask if you have arch problems...hope that helps!!!

yo i have the same problem. After i run i have to take off my shoes because it hurts so bad. Go to a doctor and ask for arch supports. They will mold a cast of you foot and then give you them. They work like a charm.
