My aunt lost my grandma deed to the house . I think she took a loan on it?

My aunt lost my grandma deed to the house . I think she took a loan on it. Is there a way that i can find out what did she did to the deed, and is there a way that i can check is there is lean on the house , my grandma give me the house and i live in it ( I live in puerto rico US)

  1. You should ask a lawyer.  Un Abogado.


  2. You can contact the register of deeds at the local courthouse. I'm not sure about PR, but we have one in each county so that might be the same for you.

  3. In the county where the house is located, go to  the Assesor's Office.   You check by the address who is listed as the owner. Then go to the Recorder's Office and look up that name.  It will tell you all the loans.  Enter grandma and aunt's name to be sure. If you are lucky, the 2 county offices will be online.  They will be helpful over the phone , too.

    Don't worry about losing a deed.  You don't need the old deed to own a house or to sell a house.

  4. get a title search run by a title company and you will see any possible liens that have attached and call the lenders if any to see what is owed and pay them off or refinance the loan as her ( I think death) will trigger the due clause in any lien that may be there
