My aunt who i barely talk to told me to say my ex raped me...?

im 16 hes 18.. we broke up, i'm pregnant. i really feel i'm better without him.. and that's that. we went out for two years and it's not illegal because we dated and we were 2 1/2 years apart.. my aunt told me to say i was raped so he can go to jail.. and i said no, he didn't rape me, we had mutual s*x unprotected.. i don't think of it as a mistake because i'm making a good life for myself and my baby by going to parenting classes.. tech. school to be a medical assistant.. and i'm going to work hard, though i'm not with my ex anymore, i don't want to say he raped me.. he didn't. what would you tell her? she's like what if he gets another girl and your baby calls her mommy.. and i was like =\ omg she won't stop.

Hi Caitlinn,

It appears that you already know what the right thing is.  Rape is a very serious charge & it should not be claimed if it was actually a consentual relationship.

Additionally, would you be prepared to tell your child that his/her father is a rapist when he in fact, is not?  Would you want your ex to have to be registered as a s*x offender for the rest of his life when he is not?  Would you want to damage an innocent man's reputation and future?

You really don't owe your aunt any explanation of why you do not want to lie about rape.  I would recommend limiting time together with the aunt under these circumstances.  Sorry that she is giving you bad advice.

Thank you for doing the right thing.  There is never a good reason to lie about rape.  I feel certain that you will be able to teach your child right from wrong very well.  Good luck in school.
