Thanks very much to all who took the time to read this, FINALLY LEA have said this evening that he CAN go to Marketfields School, grateful to everyone (but not to those who reported me) who took the time to understand a mother of an autistic child

  1. Well done.  It's about time LEA's started to take more account of what parents say.  After all, you know your child better than anyone else.

    It sounds like your son might have auditory hyper-sensitivity judging his reaction to other children and noise.  It is well documented that children who suffer autism can experience distortions of sensory perception.

  2. I remember your situation. I am so happy for you! Just make sure you learn the special ed laws and that the school follows them, MOST of them don't follow them and cheat the children out of their education.... stay on your toes.

    OH, make SURE you get this in writing. If it's not, they can come back and deny this.  Write to whoever said this and request 'prior written notice' for their decision to do this.

    It is mandated by federal special ed law that they give this to you. And it is VERY important to have it in case there's trouble down the road.

  3. Hi Heidi- I did read your Q but didn't answer . My son has Aspergers but doesn't really need any extra help just understanding . Its a rough old road eh?
