  1. Problem solved, it is working now. I have just gone to update & the problem has been resolved.

I didn't do anything bar wait patiently for AVG to sort their prob out. So don't worry about uninstall/reinstalling & wasting download space etc. ;-P

  2. don't panic - don't uninstall AVG - wait for a fix - more info from AVG here

    http://freeforum.avg.com/read.php?12,142...

  3. The missing .bin file is a part of the set of update files sent everyday...it's just that the .AVG update servers didn't distribute the .bin file along with the other files that make up the virus database update, so the AVG program rejected todays update and is still using yesterday's virus database. That means that you're still protected and the program is working. AVG updates the program everyday, so at the very least the missing .bin file problem will be corrected within 24 hours.

DO NOT REINSTALL the program. When you do that you actually put your PC at greater risk because the AVG install file on the website will not include the most recent virus database - you will end up using a database that may be as much as a week old, maybe more. Just leave the program as is and the .bin problem will go away within the next 24 hours.

  4. i had the same problem but now it is working

  5. Hello John,

It appears that the problem is with one of the AVG 8.0 free updates.

The problem apparently affects both Vista & XP.

It should be easy to rectify.

    Goto:

    http://www.grisoft.com/ww.download-updat...

    1) go to AVG Anti-Virus and Internet Security - Updates

    2) make a directory on your desktop called AVG, or any name you wish

    3) download AVI: 270.6.4

    4) download IAVI : / 1616

    5) move the downloaded files to the directory you made called AVG

    6) launch AVG

    7) select tools -> update from directory

    8) select the directory called AVG where you put the downloads

I did this and the 'Missing Bin File' error was corrected.

Credit for this solution must go to Shin01 at the Askmehelpdesk, for which I am very grateful.

Please let me know if this works for you.

  6. Phew, Glad its not just me. Hope its worked out soon.
