Question:

My baby Ball Python is being strange with eating...Help?

It seriously looks like she is making friends with her food. The food is a pre-killed fuzzy. All my snake is doing is resting her head on the thing like it's her buddy. She's been doing this for about 30 minutes now. Kind of cute but at the same time, weird. Is this activity normal?

  1. try it live next time snake attack more when live

  2. Well sometimes, animals dont eat what they should and make friends with it, i know sounds crazy dont it? Lol dont worry nothin harmful! She might eat it later.

  3. is it winter where you are now. cause what sometimes happens is that snakes biological clocks say that it is winter and that it should be hibernating or it is just cold so its body starts to cool down and its body rhythm slows down, making it not need to eat.

another reason is that it could be shedding its skin soon. thats what my snake does. if it is about to shed its skin it doesnt want to eat.

if u have fed it recently before today then it will be fine if u just wait a few more days and try again then.

    This activity is quite common.

  4. how often are you feeding your snake if it is young you should feed once every 7-10 days then as it gets larger feed once ever two weeks if it is not eating at all it could be an problem try braining your mice cut it from the back of its head to the front gross but it is like candy to an snake. you can also try to dip it in warm chicken broth this also works well also you should feed rats and not mice for rats are much higher in nutrition and will be better for your snake the longest recorded time period for an ball python to go without eating is 22 months hope this helps ya NEVER PUT FOOD IN MIC

  5. maybe it likes live food

  6. ball pythons are know if not eating it can be an on going problem try  using tongs to wiggle the food and heating it..gross i know in the mic if this does not work gross again split the foods head open with a razor blade and wiggle

raise the tem in the tank a little and soak the snake in warm water if this goes on for over 2 weeks you may have to try live food...never leaving alone in tank with snake more than a couple of hours

if worse comes to worse you may have to force feed  never pleasant

    good luck

  7. She's "guarding" her prey. If you leave her and it be overnight you'll probably find it gone in the morning.

  8. Ignore the person who said to feed live you are on the right path by feeding F/T ALSO so not listen to the one who said putting it in the microwave.

Putting it in the microwave can cause heat pockets to form that will explode in your snakes stomach and I think we all know that would be very bad.

the other suggestions? Great BP's are notoriously picky eaters and sometimes go for more than 5 months without eating.

  9. Same exact thing my snake did.. =P My ball python wouldnt eat cuz i was feeding live fuzzys to it.. But today my snake ate a live hopper rite when i gave it to him try to do that. switch to live instead of pre killed

  10. Make sure it is completely thawed (5 minutes in warm water), then soak in really hot water for 30 seconds just before feeding.   Use tongs and wiggle it a inch in front of her nose... make her go after it.  If she doesn't eat, try again a few days later.

  11. well you cant just throw pre-killed food in with her. you have to use tongs and hold the food above your snake and wiggle it a little. the movement will stimulate life. eventually your snake will strike. just dont put the food right in the snakes face. about 6 inches above, or in striking length, is good.

    dont get bit :)

    good luck!

  12. Ball pythons are very finicky eaters. They will go off feed for months at a time. Even as long as 9 months. If you are feeding pre-killed food, then get some tongs and tease her a bit. make sure the food is a little warm. Also, I am not sure what temps you have her at, but if she is cold, she won't eat. Another reason would be that she is going into shed. Hope that helps.
