Okay so my daughter just turned 1yr old about 2 weeks ago & I know that one of babies first words are "no" but my daughter seems to say it to EVERYTHING!!!

Ha ha I'm trying to teach her the word yes b/c if I ask her "katie would you like _______________" she'll say "NO" but take whatever it is & eat it, play with it yada yada yada so obviously the answer should have been "yes"

Just wondering if this is pretty normal & about when do they say "No" & really mean no as apposed to "yes"

Also she babbles ALOT!!! but still doesn't say momma...she does the whole dadadadadada thing but still no momma...oh well =)

  1. Totally normal, but no less frustrating!  I posted a similar quesiton about a month ago.  My daughter is 16 months and still gets yes and no mixed up and says no to everything, even when she means yes!

Momma will come!  Dada is usually the first word - no fair!!

  2. Yes, this is normal.  My neighbor's daughter also just turned 1, and she constantly says "no" to everything as well, even when she means "yes".  It's easier for them to make the "n" sound, and "no" is a word they hear very often, so it makes sense!

  3. Oh, mamma! Don't those no's get on  your nerves? It's a phase. She'll realize soon that no means no and yes means yes. I'd say around 3! My youngest daughter's answer to everything is still no, but she's 2, so I have to give her time. A hint into curbing the no is to offer her a choice of 2 things. Cereal or fruit? bear or bunny? read or play outside? That way, she'll get it eventually that no isn't always the appropriate response. There's really not any way around it totally. She's learning that she has a voice and boy, will she use it! Good luck!

  4. It can drive you nuts, but she'll learn fast. When she takes something you offer say "Yes please." to help her along.

We had a time with my son when he was about that age--everything that was red was called "Apple". The red blocks, the ketchup, the book with the red cover. It goes away faster than you find you wanted it to.
