how big does it have to be befor i let it out? im worried about it getting sucked up in the filter its already big enough to were it wouldnt get eating by my other fish please- help me i dont want it to be trapped in the breeding net for ever

It should be around 1 inch before you let it out.

Cover the filter intake with a piece of nylon stocking or old fish net material.  You can secure it with a rubber band or plastic twist tie.  Cut enough of the toe part of an old pair of panty hose to cover all of the intake basket and your small fish will not get sucked up into the filter.
