  1. Since the parents live in a home with humans your smell is everwhere so they will not abandon it. My parakeet just recently laid eggs about 2 weeks ago and I held them. All 4 are doing great now.

It is actully good to hold them because then they get used to humans and are not as frightend and become ALOT more tame.

    Hope this helped!

  2. There is that possibility. You probably should not take that chance. Unless you can care for the baby bird on your own, I would say go ahead, but wait for a while until you hold it.

  3. NO! The Parents will not abandoned it. But a word of caution since baby Finches are very fragile be very careful when you pick them up to hold them, but dont keep them out too long because very young baby birds can die at room temperature. They solely rely on the Parents to keep them warm until their down and feathers come in all the way.

  4. Its parents won't abandon it if you hold it. That's a myth. We found a baby bird in the road once and couldn't find the nest so we took care of it at home. We had it in a cage outside on the porch for a little while and one day my mom had it on her shoulder and the mother came down and actually sat on my mom's shoulder along with the baby to feed it. It was pretty amazing. Her instinct to feed her baby was stronger than her fear of my mom. Anyway, we've rescued and returned several baby birds to their nests (when we can find them) and the mothers always take them back right away.
