My baby doesn't want to eat?

My baby usually is a great eater, and he really lets me know when he's hungry.

He slept lastnight from 11-7, then woke up really hungry, and had 2oz.

Then I took him to my mother's, and she has been trying to get him to finish his remainder (4oz)...he is whining and won't eat.

She prepared some rice cereal and he did eat that.

Isn't it unusual. After sleeping all night he doesn't want his normal full meal? What could it be?

He doesn't have a fever. He is 4 months old.

  1. call a pediatrician

and ask what might be wrong

  2. Hello, if it goes on for a few days I would be concerned, if not I wouldn't worry.  He may very likely make up for it later in the day.  I just wanted to mention about the cereal, it is not recommended until 6 months.  A few reasons for this are that their digestive system is not mature enough for it, early feeding has been linked to kids with allergies, and also leaky gut syndrome.

You are sure lucky that he sleeps eight hours, that is wonderful.

  3. Babies eating patterns change all the time.  Unless he continues for days not eating much then there is probably nothing to worry about.  I don't recommend offering rice cereal instead of his bottle.  His bottle should be his main food source now.
