My baby has some kind of rash on her arms and legs can anyone give me any ideas as to what it could be?

The baby just came home from grandmas and she has a rash all over her arms and legs, but nowhere else. The bumps are small and red and spread about a centimeter apart from each other.

They do not seem to be bothering her, she's not scratching at them or cranky at all. She just turned 1 year, she is currently on Amoxil for an ear infection. Could this have something to do with a reaction to the Amoxil possibly? She has been on it for about a week now, and this just started today.

Just concerned about what it could be and what I can do.

  1. OMG stop the meds and take the baby to the hospital,  yes it could very well be a allergic reaction to Penicillin.  This baby could stop breathing.

  2. Only an idea... did G-ma give baby a new food? Consider hives?? Maybe even chicken pox... but I would think they would be al over her body. Was she outside? Maybe heat rash.

  3. Since it is only on her legs and arms, that makes me wonder if it is a topical allergy.  Maybe she is allergic to g-ma's laundry soap or softener.

See if it goes away in a day of two.

I would keep a journal of rashes and whatever she has been eating or where she has been.  This could help in figuring out strange rashes like this.

Usually a reaction from a medicine is in other areas too, like the chest and tummy.

  4. Could be anything.  doesn't sound like anything contagious.  the best thing to do is keep giving her the amoxil as she will need this for ear infection.  keep an eye on her temp and if it goes over 38 deg Celsius then give her some pain relief.  Press gently on the rash if it goes white and then the skin comes back normal looking, i.e. skin looks normal colour then it may just be viral rash, if the rash stays then it is probably an infectious rash.

I would make an appointment to see your local Dr if the rash spreads or lasts longer than two days or if you are really concerned it is better to be safe than sorry.

  5. It could be a reaction to the medications... but it could also be any number of things.

Baby's don't always complain... so it doesn't mean it isn't bothering them.

Do NOT use any home remedies nor give your baby any medications over the counter.

Instead, take your little one to a doctor today.
