  1. Dairy is known to constipate and if the stools are mucousy the bowel lining is irritated. The only way you will know is if you stop with the cow's milk for a week or so and see if it clears up. Then you can reintroduce the cow's milk and see if it happens again.

You can try goat's milk for a while too. Goat's milk casein is more like human milk, so it is more easily digested. My daughter couldn't tolerate cow's milk until she was 2.

You can also find out more by going to the Yahoo group called "food lab."  There, a lot of parents have a lot of experience with food-related issues and children.

I didn't have a lot of luck with doctors with this issue--they are not trained in nutrition and many will test for allergies. Allergies are the body's immune system producing histamines--food sensitivities are not related to allergies and can't be detected by allergy testing.  Elimination diets are the only way.

  2. when i first started my son on regular milk he had watery stools for 2months and i had taken him to the doctor numerous times as it was causing terrible diaper rash........only later to find out he is lactose intolerant even though his formula was milk based it wasnt as harsh.......try mixing formula and milk and ease the baby into it. if that dont work try silk or lactaid....my pediatrician recommended silk

  3. Actually there are many virus going around at this time. I would say that it could be the milk but im sure its not hurting her. Her body is trying to get used to the change as is it you ate or drank something new you may experience some changes as well. I would give it another week if thats the only problem she is experienceing . If it gets worse or she gets fussy about it i would call the doc. Good luck

  4. how old is she?

  5. Yes this happened to my daughter when she was that age. It's very normal for this to happen as breast milk and formula are very different then regular milk. Proteins are broken down differently in different types of milk. If the stool is green however that means that she/he is having other issues such as allergies to the milk product and needs to be changed to a soy/rice milk. You can always call your doctor about this issue and they should help you, that's what they are there for and trust me they have had millions of these calls all the time.

But it is very normal and nothing to worry about unless it is not a normal color.
