Question:

My baby hits her head on things? On purpose?

My 10 month old sometimes sits and looks at things, then continues to drop her head onto it a few times.. Its like she gently hits her head on it, picks her head up a few inches, then hits it on the object again and does this like 4 or 5 times.. When I watch her it looks like she is doing it on purpose. I cant imagine she would accidentally hit her head and do it 5 times after. Anyone else had their baby do this? Should I be concerned?? She doesnt hit it hard enough to hurt herself.. but still. She has done this quite a few times.

Any input/similar stories/tips??

  1. Haha. I don't know but I wouldn't be worried unless she's hurting herself but is still doing it. Maybe that's the way she feels and learns things? With her head lol. You never know. Or maybe it's just a phase she will soon grow out of. But I would bring it up to her doctor at her next check up.

  2. Its no big deal my 7 month old hits her head with stuff too...its just a phase i wouldnt be worried unless she is REALLY hurting herself.

  3. ah its very very normal. My daughter would hit her head on her crib, high chair, anything she could. It only lasted a couple of months. I too was concerned until my doctor told me almost all babies go through this faze.

  4. She might just be experimenting with sensations as all children do... But I hate to say this it could be aspergus. Has she been recently immunised? Many mums (including my mum with my young bro) say they notice signs of aspergus shortly after immunisation... But don't fret. We all do strange things at some time. Probably no reason to put her in a box and classify her as something different. She is a gorgeous lil girl (from the pic)! :)

  5. i have seen my baby get a bit angry and beat his chest over and over again (seriously just like tarzan or w/e u see in movies).  and i believe he did this on purpose. but i grabbed his hands from him and told him to stop and not to do it!!

your baby probably thinks its fun. maybe it makes her feel funny and lightheaded.  i wouldn't let her do it though.

  6. hey, dont worry my little cousin does this,, i think its just for attention.. dont worry about it just tell them not to do it =]

  7. My daughter does this sometimes too (she is one yr now).  She actually intentionally headbutts me and her daddy!  She laughs when she does it.  Like yours she doesn't do it hard (well now and then she does and really startles herself!).  I think they are just testing things out.

  8. I've heard of it before. I think it's a self soothing mechanism. My brother did it when he was little. Now he's a perfectly fine adult. I've heard of other kids doing it too
