My 8 month old used to sleep 12 hours, now he gets up at 5am every morning. I have tried to settle him but he just doesnt want to go back to sleep. Its not teething because he is fine after taking him down stairs to play. He just wants to get up at 5! WHY!!

Bedtime routine - Bath at 6.15pm, feed at 6.30, bed at 7pm.

  1. You can try to push back his bedtime or decrease his nap time during the day. Try to keep it dark in his room.

  2. try to top him up with a milk feed as you are getting ready to go to bed

  3. Try pushing his routine back by 30 mins a night until you get him to a point where you're happy. If you want him up at 6am in the morning push his routine back 30 mins(so start bath time at 6 45) then a few nights later push it back 30 mins later again

  4. My mom woke up at 6am no matter when she was put to bed.  So my grandmother put her to bed by 6pm every night.   You might want to change the time of your bedtime routine and see if that works.  But he'll likely still wake at 5am.  Some children are just wired that way.  You could try some trial and error with bedtime routine times (not a big swing at any one time).  Give it a chance before you change it.  And some changes with his bedroom.  Darker curtains, white noise, etc.  You might just have to become a morning person - ugh!  Good luck.

  5. He sleeps 10 hrs at a time, thats about right.

Put him to sleep later and he will wake up later.

  6. My son has a couple of toys in his cot. He usually wakes up at 6am and plays for about half an hour until we get up.

They are the sort of toys that he can't suffocate with and not too noisy.

  7. When they start to get older they don't require as much sleep. I would try gradually making his bed time later. Try putting him to bed at 8 instead and see if this helps. I know it will be hard but just adjust your routine by an hour. I think this will help things in the long run. Also, try and not reward him by letting him get up and play when he wakes early. Make him stay in his room and he will soon learn that just because he wakes does not mean play time is going to happen. Good luck and I hope this helps.

  8. Maybe try putting him to bed at 8 instead of 7.

  9. I KNOW ive been up with my daughter since half 4 this morning she's been real unsettled for about 2 weeks now, used to be  7-8pm  til 7 am  and that was great now its about 9pm - 5am,

i don't know why, its so tiring hope you get some good answers to the why

  10. To get him to sleep later, you'll have to put him to bed later.  We go to bed around 11pm and our baby sleeps until 7am.
