I always try to smash everything, and just give her purred food, they told me to give her cheerios, I have not cause im scared she will choke , Am I doing more bad than good by not letting her taste and try actual food,? What can I give her that won't choke her, I know she chews and mashes w/ her jaws cause I see her chew when I give her certain things, but I would like to give her more choices in food. Any suggestions???? One more thing, she just got her 2 front teeth, they r not even all the way out, they are half out, thats another thing that worries me, im afraid ahe does not have the teeth to eat

  1. you are not doing anything wrong. you should give her foods when you feel it is appropriate. she will mush thing yes but if she don't have teeth yet she can't chew things that are harder. cheerios are ok though i think they melt and mush very well.

  2. Gerber makes little Finger Foods that dissolve really easily so you don't have to worry about her choking.  See them here:  http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.j...

I suggest starting with these so you won't worry as much about her choking.  It's good for them to eat real food so they can practice their fine motor skills and learn to feed themselves.  Once she is doing well with these you can move on to cheerios and other healthy cereals, small pieces of fruits and cooked vegetables.

My daughter is 9 months and eats cheerios, kix, chex, peaches, apples, bananas, (real) oatmeal, peas, beans, carrots, tomatoes potatoes, celery, chicken, rice, pasta, bread pieces, etc.  She loves real food, and especially loves feeding herself.  Just start slowly and try not to worry!  She'll be fine! Babies are really good at gumming food.

  3. my 7 month old has no teeth and eats table food.  you have to relax and let her try new things, they can chew with their gums.  my baby has eaten steamed asparagus, broccoli, pasta, potato salad, chicken, cheese etc all with just his gums!

  4. You can give her those ice cream cone. My daughter gonna be 1 towards the end of August and I've been giving her those to snack on ever since she was 7 months old. Im pretty sure that its healthy. Its plain and its soggy when they put in there mouth so they wont choke on it.

  5. It is a rational fear sweetie, you want to protect your baby. She will chew just fine.....Especially if she is teething, all of the extra saliva will help soften harder foods. Cheerios are good for her as well as Gerber snacks. The key is to be with her while she is eating. If you are really worried, dunk her snacks in milk to soften them a bit. Also try small bits of fruit, lunch meats are great too. Good Luck to you and happy birthday to your princess!!!

PS...She'll do great with her cake!!!

  6. My fiance is always nervous about these things as well so I know how you fell. I started with Gerber Puffs, they have them in so many assorted flavors. They also dissolve almost immediately in the babies mouth. Than I moved my daughter on to the Wagon Wheels, she loves the apple ones. Than to the teether cookies and the zwieback toast, she will help use those things to cut additional teeth. Mine did...

    Good Luck!

  7. Wow I understand you are worried but cheerios are perfect for babies and toddlers because they dissolve easily. I would say cheerios, fruits like oranges and bananas. The cheese like puff corns are good they disolve quick also. Mashed potatoes, peas there are a variety of foods that you can give her, and I would suggest doing it soon so she gets a taste for foods and likes all varieties of food. You will be there to watch her eat and all babies choke at some point, not trying to sound bad aobut it but it happens.

  8. I would start with Cheerios, my little guy is 10 months, and still has no teeth, and he loves them! She will not choke if she is chewing things. We feed our little guy almost everything we eat, just in tiny bites, so he won't choke. Just stay away from stuff like nuts, popcorn, hard candies, grapes, and slices of hot dog. Start with things like small bites of fruits or veggies that she likes, bananas, watermelon, pears, peaches, green beans, carrots....etc. As long as they are fairly soft and she can mash them with her gums, she should be fine! My little guy also likes the Gerber puffs, biter biscuits, yogurt melts, and wagon wheels. You would be surprised at how quickly little ones learn to imitate what you do! Just give it a try, I know it can be scary, but she will be fine as long as you are right there to watch her. Remember small bites and make sure her mouth is empty before you offer her another bite!

  9. i think you are doing more bad- and i think you know this too... if you are scared she will choke on cheerios split in half or in 4 w/e you feel comfortable...but don't deny her because you are delaying her nutritional development and in the long run the babe may become a picky eater never wanting any solid foods...

I'm starting my son on Earth's best baby foods

boil some veggies and chop em up put some cheese on top - baby will love the diff tastes and remember you dun have to puree everything but try atleast to start leaving it chunky and go from there

  10. Well, she probably won't choke! Everyone has a risk of choking. But she'll never try anything new if your so afraid of her choking.

  11. Ice cream?! For a baby?! That's nothing but fat and sugar. Not something I would want to give my ten and a half month old daughter.

Thus far, we have given her organic cereal and baby food. (Conventional, with all of the extra stuff in it, is not good enough for our daughter now.) We have bought some organic Os and organic honey and nut Os and organic fruit rings for our daughter, but have not given them to her yet. Basically, the time has not been right.

She does have one tooth that is half out, but we're not waiting for it to fully come out. We have been at our in-laws' and using her car seat to feed her and just today started her on her table high chair. (It finally got cleaned.) Now that we have a chair, we can start her on them.
