  1. If he's wearing any warm clothes take those of first. Depending on how hot he is you may have to take of all his clothes too, to start the cooling process. A tepid sponge will also help but considering that he's refusing to eat, it may upset him too much for you to try and coax him with some milk or other suitable liquid later.

After this give him the anti-pyretic eg Mefanamic (sic) acid, paracetamol, ibuprofen. But avoid syrups containing asprin, there were a number of concerns raised about asprin before the age of twelve and it's relation to some syndrome (Reye's I believe). Hope he feels well soon.

  2. I would make an appt. and take him to the pediatrician. Usually they can't do much, but it could be an ear infection or something else, so better to get it checked out to be safe.

  3. Awwww, sad to hear.  Does your pediatrician allow you to use suppositories if the fever gets too high?  For us if he/she really doesn't want to eat, we just make sure we keep him/her hydrated =(  Hope your baby feels better soon!

  4. Infant tylenol. He's old enough for it, just read the directions. It will bring down his fever, and he should be able to eat after that.

    hope he feels better

  5. infant tylenol every 6 hours and then infant ibuprofen every 8 hours.  You don't give them at the same time.

say it's 6 am.  You give the tylenol now.  Then in 2 hours you give the ibuprofen at 8am.

check the fever around noon.  If fever persists give tylenol at 12.  then ibuprofen at 4pm.

    push the fluids.

if doesn't go away or the fever goes above 104 and your child is lethargic, contact your pediatrician or go to the ER.

--mom of two kids and one on the way-dealt with lots of fevers.

don't forget to look for skin rashes, anything in the mouth like new teeth, red roof of the mouth, etc.

    --could be teething...
