I have a six week old little boy and he has a cold w/o a fever. Being a first time mother I took him to the dr to make sure everything was ok. He said that we just have to get through it (which I figured). So my problem is he went from a dry cough to a barking cough and the dr said we could use the humidifier which really helped his nose and pedialite which helps the flem but what do I do about his horrible cough? you can tell he is in pain when it happens and I just don't know what to do!!!!

  1. If it sounds like a barking cough, then he could have croup. I would phone the dr. to ask him if that is possible.

  2. put vick's baby vapor rub on the bottom of his feet and cover them with socks.

  3. Your doctor should be able to recommend something for pain, but tylenol seems to be good for babies, though it has a fever reducer component. If the type of cough has changed, let your doctor know, it could be something more serious..

  4. If you think he's in pain, give him a little tylenol for some relief because there's really no solution other that waiting it out :(

  5. First let your doctor know about the change in the cough. If you already have and he told you the same thing then try this. Take him into the bathroom turn the shower on hot and let the room get steamy, you can just sit or stand and hold him just so he gets to breath the steamy air for about 10 min. Then Take him to the kitchen and open the freezer and let him breath the cold air for about 2 min. Also warm water in a bottle helps with the phlegm. I know this sounds insane but it worked for my youngest 2 when they had a nasty cough at 3 weeks and at 7 weeks. Good luck.
