  1. ruby has a really great menu (well, i think so).  keep in mind that we are vegetarian and that ruby does not drink milk. she drinks the calcium fortified OJ, and i purposely chose foods for her that are high in calcium. in addition, a lot of the other food was chosen to make sure she gets the protein and iron she needs. she is healthy as a horse and has been sicck only once in her life -- for 24 hours when she was 12 months. she is 14 months now. here are examples of what she eats and when:

breakfast, upon waking (about 6:30 am): at home, always van's brand, all natural, mini blueberry waffles -- because she likes them so much and because they are calcuim fortified. also, if we are somewhere else, she'll have wheat toast strips with melted mozzarella, fruit and cheese, whole wheat bagel, etc.

mid morning snack (any one or two of the following): pirate's booty/veggie booty puffs; green grapes cut into quarters; organic string cheese; late july brand organic cheese crackers; diced tomatoes; banana; watermelon or canteloupe chunks

lunch: whole wheat mac and cheese with finely chopped kale or spinach added during cooking; garden burgers (her favorites are annie's cheddar burger, dr. praeger's california burger, and annie's texas burger); boca brand "chicken" nuggets (they are vegetarian. these are one of her favorite things all around); tofu scramble (tofu, spinach, julienned potato); whole wheat pasta primavera (with the veggies chopped up small); soy "bologna"

mid afternoon snack: same list as mid morning

dinner (she usually eats dinner twice, at 4:30 ish and 6 ish): whole wheat crust, homemade pizza; any of the lunch items she did not have that day; sweet potato fries (alexia brand); vegan chili (homemade), whole wheat "grilled" cheese (really baked in wheat pita with spinach and tomato then cut into strips); annie's brand spinach pizza bites if i don't cook, which is rare.

edit: i forgot to add that ruby also takes an infant multi-vitamin. my pediatrician recommends it to all his babies: enfamil poly-vi-sol with iron.

  2. Parent.com have great info you can even get weekly updates about lyour child's health & growth through email

  3. I would do lots of veggies and some friuts not to much fruit cause then they'll like all the sweet foods more

  4. I used to dice everything for my daughter and let her pick it up with her fingers. I would stay up late one or two nights a week and prepare meals for her and then store them in the fridge. My daughter's favorite was brown rice with diced chicken and soft cooked veggies mixed in. You can also buy the gerber graduate veggies if your strapped for time and leave the chicken out.

  5. so i am not a parent, but i babysit these kids, one just turned 1 and the other is almost 3. ive noticed she feeds them yogurt, and cut up foods such noodles and grapes that are cut into really small pieces

  6. My baby is around the same age and eats gerbers graduates lil entrees mashed potatoes and gravy with turkey, and lil meals vegetable stew with beef. Those are the only two baby food items still on the menu, otherwise the rest of the week is eating our food. We are still on formula though And afraid will be for a while yet.
