My 10-month old baby whos running havoc by crawling everywhere, jus swallowed a piece of coal. Shes been going near the fireguard constantly, n somehow shes pulled it off and taken one of the coals, I jus noticed black all around her mouth and on her teeth. Is this dangerous? I have no idea if i should get her checked out or not....

I;m not being too over protected but last time she swallowed some grass/soil out in the garden she got a really bad stomach bug and I dont want the same thing happening. Any ideas? Thanks

  1. she's ok. the coal was near the fire place and a virus or bacteria cannot survive near the fire...besides coal is used as a filter for water filtration purposes. It is also used to whiten (brush)  teeth in some places.

  2. Ive got an ide, lets experiment... you eat some coal!

now if you think what ive said is mean, then youve answered your own question, and should go to the doc, if you think its a good idea, well just go ahead, preferably with a mature adult around..

  3. omg! you should be in a hospital and make sure to give your baby milk asap

  4. iw ould take her to a and e straight away!! get profession advise. good luck

  5. You never know

to be on the safe side id deffinatly get her checked up asap !

  6. Omg people really overreact to stuff. Doctors use charcoal to neutralise overdoses so if your daughter ate a teeny bit, she will be fine. She won't have eaten loads, coal is hard to bite!

  7. take her to the drs - look at all the time you just wasted typing that! she needs to get looked at if not anything else! you should never take a chance when it comes to your babies health!]

    go woman!!

  8. take her to the doctors or better still the A and E  they will tell you if she is ok

  9. call poison control to check but I don't think its dangerous

    the number is 1 800 222 1222

eight hundred two two two one two two two in case numbers are blocked

  10. POISON CONTROL CENTER! CALL THEM ASAP. YOU SHOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT HER GETTING A TUMMY ACHE FROM THIS YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED ABOUT HER BEING POISONED! CERTAIN CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS FROM COAL CAN POISON HER BLOOD.

  11. When a 10 month old child swallows anything it shouldn't, the doctor is you first port of call not strangers on YA!

  12. Why are you on here just go to the doctor ! What do we know?

  13. It should not harm her ,keep your eye on her stools ,she should pass it through.

  14. She'll be okay-babies are forever swallowing things they shouldn't as we as parents just can't watch them 24/7. Keep an eye on her, give her something to drink and watch her nappy for it coming out the other end.

  15. phone the NHS advice line.

  16. Keep her away from coal!

Call the doctor just to be on the safe side! =)

    GOOD LUCK!! <3

  17. i'm one of those people who doesn't want to take myself or my baby to the doctor over every little thing as well.  however in this case if it were me i would take my child to the emergency room, immediately.  swallowing coal is serious business.  She'll probably be firne, but you should still take her anyway just to be safe.  i assume this is one of those little coal rocks and not a big one.

on second thought i would probably call the pediatrician before i went to the emergency room.  if he told me not to worry about it i'd probably then still go to the emergency room.
