I had my daughter at 28w2d! That was just last Monday, so with her being 3 months early, does that mean that she will be behind about 3 months? This is my first, so I'm not even sure when to start things yet (I actually thought I had 3 more months to read up on things!) but I'll find out. But things like teething and solid foods and what not. Will she do all these things later??

Thanks for any advice!!

  1. These are questions you should ask your doctor. I would focus on things that are happening now.

Is your baby out of the woods yet (her health?)

I would not worry so much about foods and teething right now, i would be worried about her breathing well and gaining weight.

    Good luck

  2. I had my daughter at 25 weeks and She spent 4 months in the icu and had 6 blood transfusion's and  5 surgery's its been h**l and hard but my baby is doing good now she is 1 yr old still weighs 18 pounds but she no longer needs her heart monitor or feeding tubes (she needed the feeding pump because she was born with a really bad case of reflux and had to get a mickey button inserted into her belly and we had to burp her from that so like i said its soooooo scary but there is so many machines and great doctors out there that everything will be fine  and yes ur child will be behind for a lil while but the more and more they see they start to do my baby crawls talks and eats all kinds of food she is gaining weight and all the time she is doing alot better if u want u can email me and i will send u pics of before with her in the icu and after its a big difference well i wish u n ur baby luck  just remember things will work out for the best

  3. I would not worry about solid foods and teething, your doctor can help you figure all that stuff out as you go and your baby grows.

Enjoy your baby.  Get lots of cuddle time in.  Try to get some rest.

    CONGRATS!

  4. Nope, she will be caught up to speed in no time!

  5. The teething and solid foods will pretty much happen the same as other babies. Your child will have a corrected age, it is her age minus the three months she was early and this is to allow for catch-up for the things like rolling, crawling, walking, talking - the more physical things. The doctors apply this until your child is about 2 1/2 so that they can tell that she is developing normally- instead of being expected to do things by the time the average baby her development is judged on her corrected age. What you will find to when she comes home is that she will basically not have any wake time until closer to your due date. My girl was 2 months early and this was the way for her- we had to wake her for feedings because a preemies instinct and need for sleep is so strong. There is lots to know about feedings and care so ask lots of questions. My girl now though is 7 1/2 months and is actually advanced for that age. She has been crawling for a while, is almost walking, drinks from a sippy cup, is on lots of foods and sometimes fingerfeeds herself. There has been no need for catch-up time for her- she was 4 lbs 7 oz at birth and is now over 17lbs. All babies are different though-mine is very determined to grow up fast-lol Goodluck and congrats- hope I helped, feel free to e-mail

  6. Congratulations and I hope everything goes well for you as you care for your new daughter.  Yes, she will be behind in her physical development, but usually this is only for the first year.  So, any major milestones they talk about like rolling over, sitting, crawling, etc., should be adjusted by how much she was born premature.  It's ok - remember that she missed out on some development time in the womb that most babies get.  But, by the time she turns one, she should be caught up or pretty close to caught up with other full term babies.

    Best wishes!

  7. There may be some delays but by her 1st birthday she should be all caught up, and if you have any concerns you can have her evaluated and could get therapy (occupational, physical, speech). No problems.

  8. My son was born early but was fine other than being small everytime we took him out people question us if he was born early it took about 5 months before he started to really bulk up and for a yr and a half he did everything behind other kids we still loved him and was glad he pulled through was our first concern our second concerned was he always going to be behind however ill tell you what from a yr and a half and on hes been right on track hes our miracle baby and hes 5 now and we are so glad he came along my wife and i spent over 20 weeks in the hospital while she laid there in labor and doctors doing everything they could to keep him from comming i thank alot of people for helping us our doctors my work for giving me the whole time off to be with my wife our family for visiting us at the hospital and taking care of our home our older kids due to they understood y we werent there for all those months so in short what im trying to say is love and enjoy your preciouse baby because it could have been a lot worse your daughter might not have made it and like me and my wife always said everytime the doctors prepared us by saying its very possible when hes born something might and probly will be wrong we said as long as he makes it well love him , and for the record he starts kindergarden in 3 weeks and 1 week ago started soccer goodluck

  9. congrates I know that this time can be stressful as you have a little baby that your were expecting to arrival in another couple mths. I was born 3mths early and my mother tells me that i developed at the same rate as my brothers and sisters. She may start of a little slower as she has to learn to things before her body is really ready ie to feed, you will find that she will take of and all will be well

Good luck and dont stress the best way to become a good mother is to learn as you go along, reading books and that is good but its not the same as when you have your own baby.

    best wishes

  10. Sometimes Preemies are delayed a little with developmental milestones.  But usually they catch up within the first two years.  It is nothing to worry about.  You just spend time with your knew baby and enjoy it because they grow up so fast.

    Congrats
