Question:

My back cracked and pain followed. Advice?

Today I was doing some push ups. I must've been going too fast, because on the way down I heard my spine crack. It was near the neck and shoulders.

I've never had any back problems before, but now it hurts a ton, especially when I move my head side to side. It doesn't hurt more when I touch my back, though. But with this pain, I can hardly do anything, especially turning my head. Any advice regarding what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

  1. I would have to advise going to the hospital to get an X-ray. The cervical section is absolutely not something you want to be taking advice about in yahoo answers. Its way too important.

If your mind is set on not going to the doc though, stay off of it and try and get a cast for your neck. do NOT move it.

Advise; Person above was talking about a muscle strain, you complained of hearing something "pop" which generally points towards either the bones or the muscles connecting them, a much more serious problem.

  2. You probably sublexated your cervical spine.  Just be gentle and let it heal.  When you pull a muscle it can pull your spine in one direction or another (as happens when you injure your back).  After a few days the muscle will relax and the spine should return to normal.  Use ice, not heat on it.
