My back left molar hurts when i eat crunchy foods, but dont have cavity?

whenever i eat crunchy foods it hurts on my back right molar..what does this mean?? i brush and it will hurt, but my dentist says i dont have a cavity..what do i do?

  1. You could have a cracked root.  I just had one (tooth had to be pulled) and the only symptom was the presence of deep gum pockets around that tooth.  The crack didn't even show up on one series of x-rays - they had to do another one from a different angle to see it.

  2. If he doesn't think it is a cavity what does he think it is? You don't get pain like that without a reason. Does the tooth move when you grab it and push it back and forth? That is worse than a cavity - it means you lost enough bone that the tooth could fall out. You might need another dentist or a lifetime of eating non-crunchy foods as your teeth fall out one-by-one. I would consider asking another dentist if yours doesn't have a satisfactory answer for you.

  3. It could be a nerve problem. You may need a root canal.
