  1. your bank may have agreements with other banks to avoid atm fees abroad (inquire about this at your bank).

i have been to 3 of the above countries.  i always just take money out at the airport or once i get into town (this has been the case everywhere in the world i have traveled).  i have always used atms and never had a problem.  to avoid major atms fees i tend to take a decent amount out at once, keeping some of it in the room safe to avoid carrying large amounts of cash.

  2. Good luck!  I've had a hard time in Puerto Rico and that's part of the US.

Cash cash cash.  I even had to fly back to Florida because Bank of America didn't believe I was who I said I was.

  3. ATM fees are charged by your bank, not by the bank who owns the ATM, or the credit card company. To get a cheaper rate you'll need shop around and do a comparison between banks, but you will always have to pay some sort of fee plus a foreign exchange transaction fee.

Whatever you do, don't use a credit card to withdraw cash, use this only for paying hotel bills, major purchaes, etc.  To withdraw cash use a Visa or Mastercard debit card.  Ensure the PIN is 4 numbers only, and notify your bank before travelling so they don't put a stop on your account due to 'unsual' transactions.

Visa and Mastercard are acceptable anywhere in Europe.  Amercian Express is not so well known and could be a problem.

Hope you learn the country names before you travel - it's Chechnya not Chechia.  Any reason why you're going to Chechnya, given that most Western governments have travel advisories warning people not to travel here?
