I told my my bank to take $400 cash out of my savings and give to me. Which they did do. But for some reason it shows in my checking that i now have $400 more in my checking account. So basically i got an extra $400. Today (2 months after this happend) i went and got a query of my checking and the $400 is still in there. What should i do? Should i tell the bank that they made a mistake or take the cash. Need some advice. Thanks

  1. Dont spend the money just wait in case they find out Im guessing its okay after a year or two

  2. I would definatly tell the bank. Honesty is always the best policy. Plus the teller that made the mistake probably got into trouble because they were short on their cash drawer and could be facing termination. Do you really want to be responsible for someone lossing their job for $400 that's not really yours anyway. And there is always a chance that they find it. Then they will think you and a bad person by not coming forward with the issue.

  3. Morally? It depends on which way your moral compass is pointing. If you decide not to say anything, pretend it's not there for awhile. If you spend it and they catch it your going to find yourself short of money because they will deduct it back out of your account.

  4. Honesty is the best policy.
