I cashed my check and had my house payment paid out of the same check (at the same time). I should have gotten back $84. But only received $44. They balanced their drawer and said they were only over .20

What can I do. She said "her supervisor said if she was balanced then she was balanced". But I'm still out $40 bucks!

  1. Go into the bank, tell them you believe your account was shorted $40.00 they will go thru your statement with you.  Banks do make mistakes.  I experienced three such mistakes last year.

  2. count you change before you leave the window

  3. Since the transaction involved cash, your notifying the bank and the bank checking the tellers transactions is about all you can do. Since the bank tellers overage was only $20.00 and you claimed being shorted $44.00,  then the bank has reason to believe their overage most likely did not involve your transaction. I regret your loss but remember the experience to remind yourself to always verify cash tendered and cash received in all cases before leaving from a teller or cashier.

Had the transaction been by check and the bank posted a $44.00 shortage to your account, then the problem could have been rectified.
