I have a bearded dragon baby. He is 3.5 months old, and still fairly small.

I looked around for pin sized crickets, and couldnt find anywhere that sold them. I got small crickets, and he wont eat them.

Help?

  1. Beardies should NOT eat meal worms as they are too hard for them to digest properly.  I would try small silkworms if he's not eating crickets.  Always feed your dragon food that is only as long as the width between their eyes.  At 3.5 mo. he should have a voracious appetite, though!  What are the temps in his enclosure? What type of substrate do you have him on?  Do you have a herp vet as of yet,  that you might contact?

My dragons(although they're fully grown) tend to get bored eating the same old things,  so I tend to go through cycles of different feeder insects and salad ingredients for them.

Try checking out one of the best dragon info sites around, it's:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pogona/      Oh, and also:  http://blackninjakitty.com/herps/care/qu...  .  Both sites have excellent info on all the care & feeding questions you could ask.

Good luck with your little guy!   ;]

  2. that's OK. it is too early for your lizard to eat crickets. my bearded Dragon didn't start 'till he was 9 inches.

but just keep feeding him mealworms and veggies!

BTW. when u do start giving him crickets, he will want nothing but them

  3. They sell flightless fruit flies, also juevenile dragon chow, you wet it. Also try vegetables, very small bites, may have to cut it up. Mine likes peas, broccolli, strawberries, they are attracted to red

  4. keep a small dish of mealworms and a small dish of veggies available for him. Good veggies are dark leafy greens, carrot, yellow squash, green pepper, peas, green beans - they usually like small bites of apple too. you could try feeding the smallest crickets you can find to him using feeding tongs, maybe he's just having problems catching the crickets. just keep trying - he'll love them eventually!
