My bearded dragon is acting REALLY REALLY weird?

We got a bearded dragon about a week ego.

For a few days before we could get sand, he was just in a glass aquarium.

Then about three days ago we got him sand.

All he's ever done until up about three hours ago was sit around under his heat lamp. Occasionally he would move a little bit, sometimes eat and shove his head in his big water dish.

Now, all of a sudden he's running around the cage, digging huge holes in the sand, climbing on top of this trees, sitting in his water dish and trying to climb the walls of the aquarium.

Is this normal?

Is this just him getting used to his surroundings?

Or could he be uncomfortable because his tail is shedding, or whatever.

I dont know much about Bearded Dragons, and its kinda freaking me out.

  1. It sounds like he was getting used to his environment, and now he is. If he scratches at the tail, then it's bothering him, but if he leaves it alone, just let it shed on its own. My Jibblet seems to shed in pieces from all over and not in one big chunk.

  2. That's normal behaviour for a beardie.  Beardies dig.....females dig to lay eggs.  Make sure you are providing plenty of UVB lighting.  From the way your beardie is acting, it's getting plenty of UVA.  UVA stimulates normal daytime activities, while UVB is required for calcium absorption.

  3. it nothing at all to worry about.  when i got my corn snake she would just sit there.  and then about a day or two later she started slithering everywhere, and i couldn't even catch her she was zipping through the bedding, the water.  it was like she was out of control! but then she got used to the cage, and settled down.  the animal thinks at first, whoa what is this place, and then gets use it it, and then wants to explore, but he/she could settle down soon.  he's just getting used to him new home and exploring the area.
