I just bought a dark purple duvet cover. Its called tanja brodyr and its from IKEA. My furniture is a dark brown. Right now the walls are white, and I'm not sure if I should just leave them white or paint them. Any answers?

  1. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think a pale yellow like "yellow beam" (# 7123) would highlight the dark purple beautifully.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  2. white

  3. light purple

  4. well i painted my room a pretty charcoal grey. i know it sounds depressing and dark, but its so nice and relaxing. i have a large window so it lets in light, and all my accessories are bright. anyways, you could make it look so much nicer than white. its boring!. have fun with it. i wouldnt suggest dark grey for you though because you already have dark furniture, mine is white. i would say paint it an off-white or darker ivory (like cream), but if you want a more sophisticated look, go with a nice tan. sounds ugly but with the rich brown furniture and the rich purple, it will be a lighter color in the same family. ivory would look great though. good luck

  5. orange

  6. It depends on your theme for your room. You could skip the painting thing and do a cool design.

  7. There is nothing more depressing than white walls; go for neutral colors like a soft beige, grey, or blue.

If you wanted to step it up a notch, purple is one of those interesting colors that is both warm and cold--you could make the room relaxing with cool blues and greens, or make it bold with reds and oranges.

Red and purpleis an incredibly hot color combination--surprisingly.

  8. fuchsia

  9. go to sherman williams or creative paints, ask for the painting sample books they give contractors, take it home, find three other colors that compliment the duvet, and use those, plus pick out one color for contrast.  leaving the walls white would be too harsh against such a rich color.  also if the room is small, use the darkest colors, outside of your duvet, sparingly, but make sure it is enough to ground the rest of the room.  using a design on the walls is another great idea, depends of what style of decor you are using and if it has patterns or not.  if mostly solid color, break it up with a little pattern here and there, along with the other colors you picked.  if the room is small place a mirror opposite of the lighting source to splay light around the room and make it appear larger and brighter.  add plants to give life, soft lighting for a relaxing feeling.  (small splashes of black and gold look great with deep purples, especially in a man's room)

  10. Yeah leave white :)
