Question:

My bees are only building comb on one side of the hive

i have 2 hives one is doing really good but the other one only has 1 brood chamber and 1 super ive given up on harvesting from this hive this year but on the super they have completely built up the comb on one side and nothing on the other and even when they are just hanging out on the front of the hive they are only on the side they've built up im going to mix up the super frames today but is there anything that could be wrong with the hive that is causing this

  1. I think you should check into introducing a new queen into the hive. They can be bought online and shipped to you, along with instructions if you don`t know how.

    Check the following site, or just Google "buy queen bees" and choose your own.

    also, contact your local county agriculture extension agent, there are a lot of "mites" that are destroying bee populations.


  2. It's probably too hot on that side. It might be getting too much exposure to the sun. The bees aren't going to want to do anything there if it is too warm.

  3. I have no idea, but will come back to see your best answer! I am trying very hard to encourage the bees in our garden, but don't know if the neighbors are doing the same (pesticides). I hope this is not a problem stemming from pesticides. Have you contacted your local extension office? They are so helpful with stuff like this. GL!
